The Spanish alphabet: Words that begin with A (Video lesson)

 

Spanish lesson #152: Beginning our review of the Spanish alphabet, this class will be dedicated to the letter A. We’ll learn a lot of new Spanish vocabulary. Specifically, the most common Spanish words for:

  • Masculine given names
  • Feminine given names
  • Animals
  • Fruits and eatables
  • Countries
  • Adjectives
  • Adverbs
  • False friends / false cognates
  • Regular verbs
  • Irregular verbs

 

Spanish alphabet: Common words that begin with A

La letra A (the letter A)

 

  • Nombres propios masculinos (male given names): Andrés, Antonio, Agustín
  • Nombres propios femeninos (feminine given names): Ana, Analía, Andrea
  • Animales (animals): águila (eagle), antílope (antelope), abeja (bee)
  • Frutas y vegetales (fruits and vegetables): ananá (pineapple), arveja (green-pea), anchoa (anchovy), atún (tuna)
  • Países (countries): Alemania (Germany), Andorra, Argelia (Algeria), Argentina
  • Adjetivos (adjectives): ácido (acid), atento (attentive, solicitous), astuto (cunning, clever)
  • Adverbios (adverbs): ahora (now), ayer (yesterday), anoche (last night)
  • Falsos cognatos (False cognates): actualmente (currently), asistir (to attend), atender (to pay-attention)
  • Verbos regulares (regular verbs): amar (to love), alegrar (to make happy), alegrarse (to become happy), atar (to tie)
  • Verbos irregulares (irregular verbs): andar (to go)
